Immediately we make an open records request to see whether or not this dog has a history of either behaving inappropriately or of biting other people.
We help you navigate through the process of making sure that your medical care is appropriate. Then we notify the dog owner of our intention to make a claim and ask for their insurance information.
Once we have insurance information, after your treatment is completed, we go through the process of making a settlement offer and demand. If a settlement isn’t possible, then we engage in formal litigation. In that case, we would be able to subpoena the dog’s veterinary records to see if the dog has a documented history of biting. We would go back to every veterinary the dog has ever seen if our investigators are able to determine who those providers are.
