Are there other types of brain injuries other than the mild traumatic brain injury or traumatic brain injury?

October 21, 2017 Ann Jacobs

“Anoxic” injuries, for example, occur when the brain does not get enough oxygen or is deprived of oxygen for a while. “Anoxia” (a traumatic lack of oxygen to the brain) can be the result of various events, including a stroke, drowning, or carbon monoxide/chemical poisoning. When you see those sorts of insults, all of the brain is impacted. It is called a “global insult.” Babies who are deprived of oxygen during the birth process tend to have a global insult to the brain. These are different kinds of brain injuries and have their own hallmarks depending on the mechanism.

Frequently, when we’re talking about oxygen deprivation in birth injury cases, the baby was for whatever reason allowed to be deprived of oxygen for way too long, which has resulted in global brain injury. In Neonates, it is frequently seen that they will have seizures and other immediate physical manifestations. In milder cases of oxygen deprivation, you may simply have lower cognition. Another outcome may be Cerebral palsy.
