If I report nursing home neglect, does it put my elderly loved one at more risk if she still lives there?

November 14, 2020 Ann Jacobs

That’s a real concern for many families. What will happen to my elderly parent if I report that she is being neglected by the staff of the nursing home? Will they kick her
out? Will their treatment of her et worse? Do I have to find somewhere else to move her? This concerns can be overwhelming to families that notice some type of neglect of their
elder loved one.
Often, families start by talking to the administration and seeing if the neglect can be remedied. Maybe there is one staff person who simply isn’t doing what he or she was
hired to do. It’s perfectly appropriate to work within the administrators of the facility to deal with concerns.
When your loved one has been seriously harmed and you need to take action, you shouldn’t hesitate to make a report with Wisconsin’s Department of Quality Assurance.
Then contact an experienced elder abuse attorney as soon as you can to help protect your parent further harm.
